A wall of dark blue positioned above a within-lit puddle of sea; two complementary navy commandeers. Lobert was in an unusual state while painting this piece. Instead of her usual pile of mixed techniques and chosen tones, she decided to create two separate entities here, in the same shade, mirroring off each other. Centered into a plane of passionate red, red being a color that allows her experiments to dwell within, and by experiments, it does not mean hypothesized thought, but rather, a foundation to play with whatever currently resides within the psyche. Red may be seen as her “permission to get real” color. And what emerges from the soot becomes the dramatist of the existential play in non-literal form and mood.
